Veterinary Technology Program

Caring for animals through health and sickness is both challenging and, for the right person, rewarding.  If that person is you, consider a career in veterinary technology. Professionals in this field work closely with pet owners and veterinarians to deliver care to animals. They administer medicine, collect and analyze specimens, apply bandages and assist veterinarians with minor procedures.

Apply to the veterinary technology program at MSB-St. Cloud. You could earn your associate degree and enter the field in just two years. Send us a request form or call 1-877-655-7676 today. A representative will be happy to discuss the vet tech program.

What you’ll learn in the veterinary technology program

This is a challenging program. You should have a good background in science as well as good communication skills.  Your studies will include:

  • Veterinary pharmacology
  • Animal anatomy and physiology
  • Veterinary office procedures
  • Laboratory techniques
  • Immunology
  • Hematology
  • Parasitology
  • Small animal nutrition and nursing
  • Anesthesiology
  • Small animal surgery assisting

Gain hands-on experience with rescue animals

You will learn and practice your skills in a fully equipped veterinary suite.  Patients include rescue animals—you will help rehabilitate these animals and assist our campus veterinarian with animal treatment. Toward the end of the program, you will complete an externship in the community, applying skills you learned in the classroom in a working veterinary setting.

Turn your passion into a career

As a veterinary technician, you will be able to use your training in a variety of settings, working with many different types of animals. You may find yourself working in one of the following places:

  • Small animal hospital
  • Boarding kennel
  • Pet store
  • Animal research lab
  • Mobile vet service
  • Private veterinary practices
  • Zoos and rehabilitation centers

Join our vet tech club

You will be encouraged to join the veterinary technician club at MSB-St. Cloud. Members of this association take field trips to wildlife sanctuaries, animal hospitals and equine practices; participate in volunteer activities such as emergency animal care during floods; and fund-raise by hosting pet spa days. Join our vet tech club and become part of a network of professionals who love caring for animals.

Program accreditation

The veterinary technology program at the St. Cloud campus of Minnesota School of Business is accredited by American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as a program for educating Veterinary Technicians. Graduation from this program meets the educational requirement to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).
